What`s basic equipment for free diving?
Dive mask. The most important feature of a free divers mask is that it should have the smallest volume possible. This is to facilitate equalizing the air space in reducing the amount of air necessary to do so and also helps in equalizing of ears and sinuses. The mask should also be as streamlined as possible with no dangling straps in order to reduce drag.
There are two designs of diving fins - “full-foot pocket fins” and “open-heel fins”. Open-heel design fins are not advisable for free diving, as they tend to not fit the foot and heel as securely as do full-foot fins.
For maximum performance, full-foot fins are advisable. They should fit comfortably without cramping or pinching your feet and toes. On the other hand, fins that are too loose easily fall off and are lost. If you plan to wear anything under your fins, such as socks for warmth and comfort, be sure to have them on when you try on fins.
The free divers snorkel should fit very close to the head so as to reduce drag. Also, the snorkel should not extend more than a 1 inch(2,5cm) above the head when the diver is in the relaxed, face down, surface resting position. The snorkel should not include a purge valve, which would increase drag. The tip of the snorkel should be fluorescent, or at least very bright, so as to facilitate easy identification, and most importantly, it should be comfortable to use.
